MOUNT NGLANGGERAN
Nglanggeran mountain located in the northern Baturagung Gunungkidul with an altitude between 200-700 m asl, precisely in the village district Nglanggeran Patuk with the distance 22 km from the city Wonosari. This region is a region with litologinya composed by old volcanic material and beauty of the landscape has a very unique geologically and high scientific value. From the results of existing research and reference, otherwise Nglanggeran mountain is an ancient volcano, the existence long before the formation of Mount Merapi in Sleman.
This ancient volcano formed at about 60 million years ago. The name comes from the word planggaran Nglanggeran meaningful every bad behavior must be caught. Another belief says that Mount Nglanggeran as Mount Revelation because the mountain is believed to meditation as a means of obtaining revelation from God Almighty. Water from the mountain Nglanggeran often taken from the Sultan's Palace courtiers as a means to please the public peace and safety of all DIY.
